In a virtual award ceremony, the Innovation Award jury awarded the 1st prize of 50,000 Swiss francs to SurgeonsLab on January 7, 2021. The 2nd prize of 30,000 Swiss francs goes to Babylat. The 3rd prize in the amount of 20,000 Swiss francs goes to 8photonics. All three award-winning projects come from researchers at the University of Bern. The prizes are sponsored by the Ypsomed Innovation Fund and PwC Bern. We are very honored to have received the 3rd prize of the Ypsomed Innovation Award 2020! This is a great motivation for the 8photonics team. We are very happy and proud. A big thank you to the jury that selected and awarded our project. Click here for the official media statement.

You can choose between four different grid-kit sizes: S, M, L, XL. Each kit allows to build a variety of rectangular grid-sizes with various numbers of Module slots. One Module slot measures 62.5 mm x 62.5 mm. Please click here to see a graph illustrating all possible grids that can be built with a specific kit-size.
With our modular grid concept, you can freely choose the grid size that exactly meets the requirements of your application. Whenever you notice that the grid size needs to be changed to a larger or smaller size, this can easily be done at any time during the setup process of your prototype.
Choose from a growing number of ready-to-use modules: fiber coiling modules for standard and large mode area fibers, ThorlabsTM compatible breadboards for mounting frees-pace optics, laser diode driver & temperature control modules, temperature stabilized mounting plates for fiber- and freespace optic elements, and more! Choose between air and water cooling.
Please click here to view the above figure larger. The figure shows the power and communication connections. Each electronic module has and input and output connection for the power supply and a communication port. To operate the system, the modules simply need to be daisy-chained and connected to a computer via a USB or Ethernet interface. We have a standardized communication protocol (SCPI) that allows you to control your prototype with any software you want. We provide demo files for MATLABTM and LabVIEWTM.
